As the virus is spreading and some of us need to self-quarantine, what can we fashion people do when we have to stay inside? This is the time to really activate your brain, Write, Photograph, Read, Do Makeup Tutorials, Tik Tok, Video Games, Movies and TV series. We need to stay as active as we can so we decided to talk to someone who already have experience in this.
What do you do to pass the time?
Well, it varies day to day. The only consecutive thing I have on my agenda is the course i’m taking in Italian. Before the quarantine it was in a physical school in the center of Milan and fortunately they were very quick at finding a web-based solution. Besides studying Italian four hours a day with my online class I try to be productive with my time. I’m not going to lie, the first week I took the opportunity to just sleep and watch Netflix but even that becomes tiring when done excessively. These days I try to find at least one thing I can do that my future self will appreciate, whether it being cleaning the apartment, working out in the living room or speaking Italian with a native speaker. I’m trying to use relaxation as a reward for productiveness because i’m afraid that if I constantly watch series and movies it’ll eventually grow boring and like, then what?
Do you have any tips for us?
Staying home for a whole month is tough, not just physically but also mentally. Therefore my biggest suggestion is to give yourself a purpose with each and every day. Here are a few things that can be useful to try to stay busy.
1. Set an alarm. If you don’t want to mess up your sleep schedule completely I’d suggest to set an alarm on a time you’re comfortable with. It’ll help stabilise the overwhelming amount of free time and benefit your sleep pattern.
2. This is a perfect time to pick up anything you’ve been postponing for a long time. Clean or organise your e-mail inbox, read a book, practicing an instrument or try a new recipe! Combine focus with something you find fun and exciting and time will pass surprisingly quickly.
3. Call somebody! Isolation is a state of mind. Talking to somebody whether it being a friend, a parent or grandma is really rewarding and it also lessens the feeling of loneliness.
4. Finally, what’s a quarantine without good movies and series? I personally love long marathons of movie franchises like “Star Wars” or the Marvel universe. There are also plenty of great shows and i’d suggest anything directed by Ryan Murphy.
And for those who are in a relationship, what can we do to not tear each other apart?
*Laughs*, that’s a good question! Honestly my boyfriend Roman and I are pretty good at entertaining ourselves individually. I’d say the answer is to know each others personalities enough to give each other the space they need. For example i’m way more introverted than my boyfriend, meaning I “charge” best alone, while he “charges” best around others. Of course I love being with him, but if I for some reason wanted to be alone while he wants to socialise, we compromise. He has a friend over and I just hang out in another room.
